About Our Horses

Buddy, Miniature Stallion

We saw our first miniature horse when our next door neighbors, Karen Lynn and Terry Boone, http://breezyfarm.webs.com bought four of them early in 2007, a mare named May, 2 yearling fillies, Belle and Buttercup, and Buddy, a stallion.

We immediately fell in love with Buddy and after much badgering, they finally let us buy him in May 2007, right after his second birthday. It was just as well, because Buddy was constantly after their mares, even though he was in a separate pasture at all times!  Now he worships them from a safer distance.

And so it goes, we bought their 2-stall run-in and brought Buddy home to live with our pygmy goats in the pasture. We've recently bred Buddy with May, at least we think it took.  We'll know in the summer of 2010.

We felt Buddy was lonesome for a companion and the opportunity arose in September that would bring our second horse.

"Cowboy", Shetland pony

We heard about Cowboy, an 18-year-old Shetland (gelding) pony, from our Farrier.  To make a long story short, our Farrier thought Cowboy and Buddy might get along and so we visited with Cowboy in Virginia Beach and we agreed. We brought him home that same day and the boys are still playing for "top" horse everyday, but each seems to be happy to have a companion.

"Reba", Miniature Mare

We found Reba, a 14-year old mare, in the Classified Ads in our local newspaper. She was for sale with her daughter, Cheyenne, along with a driving cart, as Reba has been trained to drive. I immediately called Karen and told her about Reba and we decided to buy the two mares as co-owners. Frank and I got up early the next morning and drove to Yorktown, VA to look over the two black mares. They were gorgeous! We immediately loaded them up and brought them home, to be stalled and pastured at Karen and Terry's Breezy Farm (next door to us).

"Cheyenne", Miniature filly

Cheyenne is just beautiful, as you will see when you view our photo albums. She is high spirited and prissy, everything you want in a show horse. She has an impressive pedigree and we will surely breed her when she is old enough.

"Willie", a red dun pony mule

We got 11 year old Willie from a couple in Goldsboro, NC in October 2009 and hope he will be a good pasture guard for our goats and chickens.  Willie is about 10 hands high and broke to ride, but doesn't much like having someone on his back, so he will not be ridden.  He was also trained to pull a cart, so maybe we'll try that next spring.  Willie is in the pasture opposite of the horses and bucks and enjoys running the fence with them, as well as just grazing.  He's stalled in the barn with the Fainting goats at night.
