Our Pygmy and Fainting goats
We bought our original herd of 13 Pygmy and Crossbred goats in March 2007. Since then, we’ve had and sold many babies. Now we have sold all the pygmies and are concentrating on raising registered fainting goats.
We purchased a small herd of fainting does in September 2008. All of the does were pregnant and we had 7 babies in January and February 2009. We'll be having registered fainting babies in Feb/March 2010 time frame. We have a beautiful blue-eyed registered herd sire, Barney, and expect some flashy babies from him and our fainter does, Scarlett, Stella, Esther and Oprah. Check back to see pictures or send an email if you're interested in purchasing one (or more!).
We have really enjoyed our goats! They are a hoot to watch and they do like to play. They love to climb and jump, so we’ve built them lots of play areas, including upright logs of different heights, two children’s sliding boards we found on the side of the road, a ramp covered in shingles and a fort that they can climb up into and look over the pasture.
The goats' first housing we built with recycled materials. We used free wooden pallets for a frame and lumber destined for the local sawmill’s burn pile and built a “log cabin” type structure for the goats. Initially it was used for a maternity ward for the goats and their babies. Now that we have a barn, the log cabin is a chicken house.
All our goats have names and fairly well behaved. Some are much friendlier than others, such as the bottle fed quads (who all now have a new forever home). They love personal interaction with people and will talk to anyone, especially at dinnertime! Bring some treats to them, carrots or peanuts and they'll surround you.
